Wilma Marie (Engelhardt) Woehlke's Obituary
Wilma Marie (Engelhardt) Woehlke, age 98, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away at 12:05 a.m., on Saturday, May 18, 2024 in Coulterville Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Coulterville, IL.
Wilma was born on January 22, 1926 near Pinckneyville, IL, the only child of William and Elizabeth (Bender) Engelhardt. Wilma was baptized in St. Paul's United Church of Christ and later confirmed there in 1941. On August 23, 1947, she married Clarence Phillip Woehlke at Lost Prairie Lutheran Church near Conant, IL, where she became a member. In 1950, the couple joined Zion Lutheran Church, Pinckneyville, IL, where Wilma retained membership for the rest of her life. After nearly 51 years of marriage, Clarence was called home on June 17, 1998.
In her younger years, Wilma worked as a household assistant in various homes and then for a local dairy, bottling and delivering milk. Later she worked at the Pinckneyville garment factory as a seamstress. In 1968, Wilma became a Certified Nurse's Assistant (CNA) and worked in that role at Pinckneyville Community Hospital for 21 years. She also helped Clarence on the family farm on which she had grown up near Conant until his retirement, at which time they moved to Pinckneyville. After her retirement from the hospital, Wilma remained active in the community for several years, volunteering at the Perry County Health Department and in her church. Later in life, she moved to The Manor at Mason Woods in Pinckneyville, where she lived for 15 years before entering Coulterville Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
From Wilma and Clarence's union were born two sons, Gary (Deborah) Woehlke of Buffalo Grove, IL and Paul Woehlke of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren, Matthew, Alex, and Victor Woehlke and Connor King; and three great-grandchildren, Ella Scott, Oscar Woehlke, and Abigail King.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Clarence, and is survived by one sister-in-law Marge Woehlke and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 10:30 a.m., with Reverend David Kollmeyer officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL, next to her beloved Clarence.
A visitation will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Wednesday, from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choosing or to the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod or any of its organizations, activities or local congregations.
