William "Bill" Powers' Obituary
William J. "Bill" Powers, age 71, of Oshkosh, WI, formerly of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Azura Memory Care, Oshkosh, WI. Bill was born on November 18, 1945 in DeKalb, IL, a son to William and Elizabeth (Yagen) Powers. On February 25, 1978, he married Rosalyn E. "Rose" Koertge in Mulberry Grove, IL and she preceded him in death on January 13, 2014. Bill was a member of the Illinois State Police and retired as a Captain. He was a member of and Committee Chair leading fundraising for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, a master gardener and focused on native prairie plants and their reintroduction along with gardening with his wife at their home. He was also a Hunter Safety Course instructor teaching many kids classes, a member of the Airedale Rescue Society traveling the Midwest transporting dogs to safe homes, enjoyed fly-in fishing trips to Canada with his friends from Pinckneyville, loved the float airplanes and the company of his good friends. He also enjoyed the fishing trips he took to Ely, MN, with his brothers and nephews, and collecting duck decoys. Bill was also an elk hunter and enjoyed elk hunting with his Uncle Ted in Wyoming Big Horn mountains. Survivors include two brothers, Robert Powers of Maple Park, IL, and John (Kim) Powers of Central City, IA; a sister Mary (Jim) Delikat of Oshkosh, WI; three nephews, Tom (Emily) Delikat, Ben Powers, Connor Powers; a niece, Kathy Delikat; and his mother-in-law, Evelyn Koertge. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Rose. Memorial services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. with Reverend Jim Barnett officiating. Friends may call at the First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Private Graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. A special thank you to Azura Memory Care for the wonderful care Bill received.
