Bill was a great guy, always fair. Praying for his family.
I am sorry to hear of Captain Bill Powers' passing. When I started working in the Perry County Sheriff's Office back in 1990, I would attend the Drug Task Force Meetings and take notes for the State's Attorney. He was always so pleasant to be around. A genuine nice guy for sure! May he rest in peace and sending prayers for his family and friends.
I am very sorry for your loss. I hope that knowing your loved one is safe in our loving God's memory and He promises that we will be able to see our loved ones again will give your family some comfort during this difficult time. (John 5:28&29)
I knew Bill from Hunter Education and from his appearances at the Hunting & Fishing Days Event at John A. Logan College. We trained together on one occasion. Bill was a fine fellow.
I'm very sorry to hear about Capt. Powers. He was an excellent boss and a very understanding compassionate man. Prayers to his family. He was missed when he retired. RIP Capt. Powers.
Sorry to hear this news...Bill was a good man..RIP
I remember Bill as a Master Gardener who was always generous with his time in helping with any project and sharing his knowledge of gardening. He was always very positive with a "get 'er done" attitude toward projects he worked on. He was a good example of serving others and I was glad to have known him.
My prayers are with Bill's family. A dedicated police officer and a fine classmate!
Bill you were great to work with, our academy class was even better. Thank you for being my friend, may the peace of Christ be with you and your family.

I had occasion to cross paths with Captain Powers only 2 times, once in the early 90's in his office at District 13 Headquarters in DuQuoin and then again several years later at a retirement dinner. At the earlier time, it looked l would be transferring to District 13 and I asked to meet him to introduce myself and discuss my move to his District. He didn't know me from Adam; but, he treated me like his own son, welcoming me with open arms. That transfer never happened; but, many years later I ran into Captain Powers at a retirement dinner for our mutual friend, Jerry Busby. Captain Powers spotted me from across a large room and bolted over to me. He still remembered me from that brief meeting many years before. He wanted to know what happened with the transfer of course since he had never been told it was canceled. Again he treated me a like a long lost friend. I remember it like it happened yesterday. He made that kind of impression upon you. I'm sorry I did not fully get to know the man; but, it only took a brief encounter to know he surely was a good man.
