Samuel Charles Hood Sr. of Coulterville, IL passed away July 06 at 10:36 a.m. in his birth home. Samuel was born to Nola Taylor and Samuel James Hood in Coulterville, IL. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Patterson. Samuel was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. He was an accomplished and honored ironworker, coal miner, as well as a dedicated civil servant to the Village of Coulterville and the Democratic Party. He worked as a volunteer over his life time as an EMT, Mine Rescue team member, Lions Club member, City Council member, Chief of Police, and Mayor of the Village of Coulterville for 16 years. Sam was known in the community and family as a generous and loving man with a witty sense of humor. Samuel was preceded in death by his parents as well as siblings, Delbert Shadrick, Lowell Shadrick, Goldie Raney, Lester Hood, Minnie Hoskins, Pearl Lively, and Mary-Dean Ricter. Samuel's memory will be honored by wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Patterson, sister, Cathrine Howell, brother, Deward "Buck" Shadrick. Also, his children Rosemary Shadrick, Michelle Miller, Jennifer (Howie) Mitchell, Samuel Charles (Heather) Hood Jr., and his only beloved obedient child Tinkerbell. He is loved and will be missed by 10 grandchildren: Keith Shadrick Jr., Jessica Shadrick, Elizabeth Miller, April Miller, Savannah Miller, Nathan Smith, Taylor Smith, Abigail Mitchell, Madison Hood, and Emma Hood. Sam was also the proud great-grandfather to 5 children. Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Ray Engelhart officiating. Interment will be Coulterville City Cemetery, Coulterville, IL. The rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Monday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday morning at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
