I will miss you Grandpa, tell granny (lillie) hi and wish her a happy birthday today! I love both of you so so much!
I am the oldest of Bob's many grandchildren. He called me Tammy Sue. I lived with him and Granny during the first years of my life.
Looking back I realized how much of an impact he made in my life.
He loved camping and boating. He taught me how to fish at a very young age.
We got up early on Saturday mornings to have a bowl of cereal and watch the Lone Ranger together.
He loved scary movies. We would go to the drive-in and after the first movie they put me in the backseat to sleep but I never did. I had to sleep between him and Granny for weeks after.
Bob loved yard sales. That's where we bought my first bike. Teaching me how to ride it wasn't as easy though.
They lived in the same house for 50+ years. I probably spent more time in the garage with him then I did inside.
Bob was a mechanic. Everything I know about cars I learned from him. He was always helping me fix my car.
He also taught me how to drive. He was pretty patient even when I took out his mailbox.
Bob was a big kid who loved holidays. Halloween he would put a scary mask on a dummy and sit it on the front porch. He tied a string to its hand and pulled on it through a bb hole in the window. He would grab kids coming to the door and laugh as they ran away screaming.
Christmas Eve we made candy and cookies. Wrapped presents were filled under the tree. You could find Bob shaking all of them trying to guess what they could be.
Fourth of July was the best. We had big family parties. Granny's potato salad was to die for. We made ice cream, played horseshoes, volleyball and cricket all day.
At night we set off fireworks. Bob set the neighbor's bushes on fire twice. We grabbed the garden hose until the fire department showed up and then we all ran.
Bob was a handyman. There wasn't anything he couldn't make or fix. He was always there to help everyone. These are only a few of the memories I will always cherish. He really was the greatest man I've ever known.
Bob also had a second family that loved him very much in Colorado and Wyoming. His second family with wife Lillie Stutes he had 6 step children 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. We all visited often and especially looked forward to camping, fishing and holidays with both of them. Bobs favorite holiday was Halloween and how he loved to decorate and scare the kids he made it so much fun. He was my dad for 59 years and love him very much.
