Louis "Pookie" Verneal Baxter's Obituary
Louis "Pookie" Verneal Baxter, Jr., age 56, of DuQuoin, IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 5:00 a.m. in Marshall Browning Hospital, DuQuoin, IL. Louis was born on April 6, 1954 in DuQuoin, IL, a son to Louis Verneal and Jeannine (Simpson) Baxter, Sr. Louis was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hallidayboro, IL. He had worked as a computer technician, troubleshooting computers for the State of Illinois. He enjoyed fishing, playing and watching basketball and traveling. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends whom he dearly loved. He is survived by his mother, Jeannine Baxter of DuQuoin, IL; his sisters and brother, Geraldine (Dennis) Johnson of Centralia, IL, Robert (Kathy) Baxter of Bloomington, IL, Kathy Baxter of Springfield, IL, Connie Baxter of DuQuoin, IL, and Vicki Baxter of St. Paul, MN; fiancé, Janet Henson of DuQuoin, IL; three children, Chelsea Owens, Nina Baxter and Brittany Baxter all of Springfield, IL; two step-children, Chartese Baxter of Memphis, TN and Joi Baxter of Springfield, IL; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Verneal Baxter, Sr.; one sister, Phyllis Regina Baxter; one brother, Jeff Baxter; and his grandparents Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, DuQuoin, IL on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Leon Kelly officiating. Interment will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, DuQuoin, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, DuQuoin, IL on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Baxter Family.
