I just discovered this ten years late. I am sad to hear of Pookie's passing. We had fun in high school. Great guy, very talented in basketball. As an Indianette it was my joy to perform for our team. I am sorry for your loss. Robert and I were in classes together and I hate that he lost his brother. The Baxter family were respected and loved by many. Kathy was a friend and spent the night at our home on Washington street with me. Good memories. Sending love.
Please accept this message of condolences from the entire Saunches family. I know how close my father was to the Baxter family as a whole and Pookie, in particular. He loved Pookie like a son. As the word of Pookie's passing has passed through our family, we each greeted it with a tear and finally with a smile. That smile comes from the wonderful memories that Pookie has left behind. Please know that we loved him and miss him.
I was very sorry to hear about Pookie. We shared a birthdate along with many classes and memories over the years.I cheered him on during many exciting high school basketball games. Best wishes to all of the family.
To the Baxter family, My deepest sympathies. I've had lots of times with Louis, most of them good times. Baseball,football,track,and most of all basketball. He was usually fun,charming,sometimes even charismatic. He was also one of DuQuoin's greatest basketball players ever. We had several really good conversations and good times in recent years. I'm grateful for that. I wish there could have been more.

Dear Baxter Family - I am so sorry for your loss. Pookie was a wonderful and kind hearted person that I was proud to call my best friend throughout our childhood. I remember all the times Pookie would eat at our house. My mom loved to feed him. He was such a joy to be around. Pookie and all of his family have always been very special to me and all of my family. My heart goes out to all of you. We will all miss Pookie.
