Jill, I am so sorry to hear of your brother's passing. Many times I have wondered if "Big Boy" was still living. There are so many things we can learn from our special needs siblings. They helped to make us who we are today. Prayers for you and your family.

It was my privilege to be his RN on Fir Cottage. I can attest he was loved by his cottage family. Know I will not forget his joyful eyes and laughter.
My deepest sympathy to John's family...I would like to add that they wrote a very beautiful obituary. I can remember, a long time ago, when his mom would visit, John would get so excited! He would get the biggest grin, clasp and clap his hands together, then happily stomp his feet. I affectionately knew him as "Stumper." He could show the best joy! My sympathies to the family. My mother, Joan Miller, & her sisters were friends with your Mom's family, the Hulseys. I recall hearing about John over the years. It's a huge testament to the strength and compassion of you and your parents as to how well John was cared for. So glad he was able to continue at the facility in Centralia when it was threatened by budget cuts. I recall speaking out against that proposed closure. May this angel rest in peace.
I cared for John for many years, he was always happy and smiling. Loved his magazines. He would put his arm around you and give you a hearty pat on the back and do that little laugh of his. He was a joy to be around. He will definitely be missed by a lot of Murray staff. So sorry for your loss, prayers for comfort 🙏
I began working at Murray Center as a Social Worker in 1978. I worked with John and his kind parents for many years. John was loved by all who knew him. His smiling face will be missed. My condolences to All of John's family. Sharon Lowry

John was so great to take care of. One day he was so sweet and then the next he was onery as all get out. All I could do was laugh. His smile was infectious and so was his laugh. He will be forever missed. He will be another Fir Cottage Angel!! My thoughts and prayers are with you Jill and your family.
I worked on Fir Cottage for many years in the clothing department till I retired in 2018. It was my greatest pleasure to not only serve him but to know him and develop a realationship/friendship with him was extremely rewarding. Working there, it was so much more than a job. John filled my heart with so much joy and I always looked forward to seeing his big and beautiful smile and the sound of his laughter always made day!!! My condolences and sympathies to all his family and Fir family. I know he will be greatly missed but I find great hope and assurance in knowing that he is free!! Free from all the disabilities that kept him chained. And to know he was greeted with his mom and dad and many loved ones who have gone before him I pray will bring you much comfort. I loved John very much and he was very special! I am thankful I was fortunate enough to have known him and cared for him!!
