John William "Bill" Hammack, age 91, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at 3:10 a.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital, Pinckneyville, IL. Bill was born on April 19, 1926 in Champaign, IL, a son to Dean Rae and Matilda A. (Dowty) Hammack. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II. On September 7, 1947, he married Mary Lou Bridenstine in the First Presbyterian Church, DuQuoin, IL and she survives. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, IL. Bill was self-employed owning and operating several successful businesses in Pinckneyville including United Cleaners, United Energy and United Heating. He was a founding member of the Optimist Club, Pinckneyville, IL. He enjoyed model airplanes and square dancing. Survivors include his wife of almost 70 years, Mary Lou Hammack of Pinckneyville, IL; a son, John (Mary) Hammack of Pinckneyville, IL; a daughter, Chantelle (Joe) Luthy of Livermore, CA; a sister, Sylvia (Gene) Hagene of Pinckneyville, IL; four grandchildren, Cortney (Jonas) Paretzkin, Jaime Hammack, Patrick Luthy and Brandon Luthy; and a great-granddaughter, Halle Paretzkin. He was preceded in death by his parents. Graveside services will be held at Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Jim Barnett officiating and military graveside rites by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, IL. Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL is in charge of arrangements.
