My Mom was a trooper about living in the nursing home. She never asked to be taken home or complained about being there. She didn't press us about when we'd be back for a return visit. While she was still able, she made friends at the nursing home and became a favorite of the staff with her joking remarks and never ending sense of humor. She definitely wasn't out to make anyone feel guilty about her predicament.
She prearranged and prepaid all of her funeral arrangements, taking the burden off of us and helping us to make sure her wishes were followed. I felt very loved when I realized that she had taken the care to cover most all of the details.
Both of my parents sacrificed to provide me the opportunity of a college education. I was able to excel in my coursework in part because I didn't have to work while I was going to school. I now realize how much that meant.
Mom was a great, very fun, down to earth mother, and I feel very blessed and proud to have been her daughter.
