Janet Lucille Erwin's Obituary
Janet Lucille Erwin, age 87, of Pinckneyville, IL, left this earth for her heavenly home on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 10:10 p.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Janet was born August 12, 1938, in Pinckneyville, the daughter of Vallie D. and Grace L. West. Her life was dedicated to motherhood, and she raised five children of her own, in addition to several others she took in through her kindness. She married her life partner, Kenneth Erwin, on June 11, 1983, and he preceded her in death.
By her own admission, Janet inherited her mother’s temper and her father’s love of game shows, and she religiously watched the Game Show Network until the end of her life. She enjoyed arts and crafts and is remembered fondly for the hand-painted Christmas cookie jar lids she gifted to family and friends. Her love of Hallmark movies is well-documented but poorly understood by her surviving family. The community remembers Janet best as the former owner of the Mobil Service Station on South Main Street in Pinckneyville, a frequent volunteer at Perry County polling stations, and a Sunday school teacher at Beaucoup Baptist Church and Oak Grove Baptist Church. In her final years, she delighted in the company, fellowship, and friendship of her Bible study group at Oak Grove.
A woman of unflinching faith, Janet never grew weary of doing good, as Galatians 6:9 reminds us. She understood her Lord and Savior would reward her perseverance in due season. On Friday, she reaped the full and eternal benefits of that longtime spiritual commitment.
Janet is survived by her grandson and caregiver Nathan Fisher, grandson Wes (Katelyn) Fisher; children Dianna Thimmig, Susan (Rob) Brown, Ron (Susie) Weeks, and Tim (Tracy) McKinney; brother-in-law Dan (Susie) Erwin; grandchildren Laura Thimmig, Marci Thimmig, Samantha (John) Voigt, Alecia (Chris) Robinson, Melody (Jason) Stuehlmeyer, Trenton McKinney, Jordan McKinney, Nikki (Doug) Teel; special nephew Logan Wildermuth; twenty four great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; spouses Blouwn D. Weeks, Charles McKinney, and Kenneth Erwin; one daughter, Beth Fisher; one brother, Vallie D. West Jr.; one sister, Norma J. McCurdy and her husband James E. “Jim” McCurdy; and son-in-law Dick Thimmig.
Memorial services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Rob Mathis and Brother Richard Lynch officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
