James Andrew Bates' Obituary
James Andrew Bates, age 67, of DuQuoin, IL, passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. in his home. Dr. Bates was born on August 26, 1943 in Harvel, IL, a son to Wayne and Marge (Bruntjen) Bates. On November 1, 1980, he married Beth Williams in DuQuoin, IL and she survives. He was the owner and operator of DuQuoin Veterinary Clinic for 41 years. He was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church, DuQuoin, IL, where he shared his love of playing the piano for many years. He was also a member of the American Veterinary Association, the Illinois State Veterinary Association, enjoyed tinkering with computers, taking pictures, overhauling Massey Harris tractors and was an all around handyman. Survivors include his wife, Beth Bates of DuQuoin, IL; two sons, Doug (Regina) Bates of Zeigler, IL and Joel Atteberry of Seattle, WA; three daughters, Audrey (Phil) Christians of Peoria, AZ, Andrea (Paul) Adam of Fenton, MO and Sarah (Hector) Munoz-Bates of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Molly (Bill) McElwee of Charleston, IL and Judy Britton of Oblong, IL; eight grandchildren, Rebekah Munaretto, Victoria Munaretto, Suzanne Munaretto, Madison Bates, Maggie Bates, Hannah Christians, Henry Christians and Isaac Adam; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, Deidre Bates. Funeral services will be held at the Christian Fellowship Church, DuQuoin, IL on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Percy Pavloff officiating. Interment will be in Old DuQuoin Cemetery, DuQuoin, IL. Friends may call at the Christian Fellowship Church, DuQuoin, IL on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Christian Fellowship Church, American Macular Degeneration Foundation or Wounded Warriors Fund. Pyatt Funeral Home, DuQuoin, IL is in charge of arrangements.
