Glen R. Hamilton's Obituary
Glen R. Hamilton, age 93, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 5:46 a.m. in his home.
Glen was born on October 25, 1927 in Pinckneyville, IL, a son to Dwight Lymon and Lura M. (Russell) Hamilton. On November 11, 1949, he married Marjorie Templeton in the First Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville, IL. She preceded him in death on March 4, 2005 after 55 years of marriage. Glen was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville, IL, where he served as an elder and deacon. He had worked for 48 years as a teacher and coach at Pinckneyville Community High School, Pinckneyville, IL. During his many years teaching Industrial Technology, Glen wore multiple hats and held a lot of different positions like announcing football games and overseeing the yearbook. His dedication was recognized many times including having an invitational track meet named in his honor, being chosen as Mardi Gras Grand Marshall, and he was also honored by the State of Illinois for his service to the IHSAA. He was dearly loved by his students and fellow faculty and he loved them, but his greatest love was his family. You could see that in his face every time he got a chance to talk about them!
Survivors include his two sons, James Scott (Marie) Hamilton of Creal Springs, IL and William Dwight (Nancy) Hamilton of Steeleville, IL; a daughter, Gwen (Michael) Fox of Bonfield, IL; seven grandchildren, Megan (Brandon) Kindle, Katie (Keith) Eastman, Rusty (Taylor) Hamilton, Keith Hamilton, Casey (Arthur) Meyer, Ryan (Dawn) Fox and Rachel (Brandon) Fecht; and seven great-grandchildren, Gwendalynn Fecht, Marjorie Meyer, Artie Meyer, Elliott Fox, Boyd Fox, Owen Hamilton and Wyatt Hamilton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a granddaughter, Amy Elizabeth Fox.
Funeral services will be held at the First United Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Sam Foskey officiating. Masks will be required. Interment will be in Galum Presbyterian Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Visitation will be at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday morning at First United Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville, IL from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Covid-19 restrictions and mandates will be adhered to.
