Elizabeth B. Montgomery's Obituary
Elizabeth B. Montgomery, age 93, of Coulterville, IL, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 surrounded by her loving family at Coulterville Rehab and Care Center, Coulterville, IL. That was her home for the past three and a half years. While there, she made a host of new friends; many were residents and many were staff members. She was also able to visit with several people who lived there who had been long time friends. Elizabeth was born on December 2, 1923 in Sand Ridge, IL, a daughter to Jess Morgan and Bertha M. (Taylor) Bryan. She lived most of her life in the Coulterville area. On June 2, 1943, she married Rodney David Montgomery in Clayton, MO and he preceded her in death on April 13, 2001. In addition to raising her own children, Elizabeth was the mother figure to her siblings. Her mother passed away when Elizabeth was fifteen. The children ranged in age from Elizabeth (fifteen) to Dale (two months). Elizabeth worked at Kroger in Coulterville, IL for three years. She was a member of Coulterville United Methodist Church, Coulterville, IL for over 50 years. She served on many church committees and was a faithful servant of her Lord, Jesus Christ. She was a member of Randolph County Home Extension (now HCE) and Shamrock Quilting Club for many years. She was a perfectionist as is evidenced by her many beautiful quilts and crochet projects. Many years ago she crocheted a large wall hanging of the Last Supper. It hangs on the wall in the sanctuary of her church. It is truly a work of art. She enjoyed crafting and was a fantastic cook. She was a hard working farmer's wife and enjoyed quilting and gardening. Elizabeth was loved by many and will be missed greatly by family and friends. Survivors include two of her children, Raymond (Edith Ann) Montgomery of Coulterville, IL and Madelyn (Dale) Hill of Pinckneyville, IL; a son-in-law, Rick True of Richview, IL; ten grandchildren, Lisa Montgomery of Pinckneyville, IL, Paul (Shelly) Hill of Portland, OR, LaDonna Silbe of Tamaroa, IL, Laura (Gerry) Whitley of DuQuoin, IL, Jason (Jennifer) True of Centralia, IL, Micah (Toni) True of Salem, IL, Larry (Paulet) Loos of Pinckneyville, IL, Mike (Rose) Loos of Pinckneyville, IL, Kathy (Warren) Gendron of Cutler, IL, and Christina (Darrell) West of Dyersburg, TN; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Quinley of Springfield, IL; three sisters-in-law, Brenda Bryan of Honoraville, AL, Cleo Jones of Farmington, MO and Opal Wilson of Coulterville, IL; a brother, James Allen Bryan of Glen Carbon, IL; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and church family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Myron D. Montgomery and Alice (Montgomery) True; three brothers, Carl Bryan, Jesse "Bud" Bryan and Dale Bryan; and five sisters, Ruth Goodrich, Virginia Bryan, Norma Jones, Ina Mae Brazinski and Jane Colandro. Funeral services will be held at Coulterville United Methodist Church, Coulterville, IL on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Kimberly Allen officiating. Interment will be in Coulterville Cemetery, Coulterville, IL Friends may call at Coulterville United Methodist Church, Coulterville, IL on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Coulterville United Methodist Church, Coulterville, IL. Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL is in charge of arrangements.
