Bette was my friend and my mentor. I was a new graduate nurse and green and grass. Bette took me under her wing. She was probably the best nurse I have ever known and I have been a nurse for 42 years. She new her patients and she was a patient advocate. I have her recipe for ice box cookies but mine never were quite as good as hers. So thin and crispy. She would give me divinity at Christmas. My father was in a TB sanitarium in 1948 for 2 years. She would send divinity to him via my mother when she went to Chicago to see him. Bette also lived across 16th street from my grandmother. My grandmothers last name was Childers. My mother and father were Leon and Peggy Fosse. She will always hold a dear place in my heart. She was a great lady. This world was a little brighter because of Bette.
