Dorothy Marie Pick's Obituary
Dorothy Marie Pick, age 92, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 1:20 a.m. in Friendship Manor Nursing Home, Nashville, IL. Dorothy was born on September 12, 1922 in Perry County, IL, a daughter to Arthur and Lena (Telkemeyer) Morgenstern. After her mother died at a very young age, she was raised by her father and step-mother, Virginia (Flowers) Morgenstern. On September 28, 1940, she married Elvis C. Pick in Perryville, MO and he preceded her in death on May 4, 1974. She was a Lutheran by faith and a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Pinckneyville, IL. Dorothy had worked at The Garment Factory, Pinckneyville, IL and worked with her husband and brother-in-law, James Pick in the family owned Pick's Feed and Hatchery store until the time of her husband's passing. She then worked at Erwin's Florist, Pinckneyville, IL until she retired. She was a past member of the Ladies Eagles Auxiliary, donated her time at the Caring & Sharing Thrift Store, Pinckneyville, IL, and enjoyed her pinochle clubs in Sparta and Coulterville, bingo, sewing, crocheting, crafts, ceramics and embroidery. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her son, Gene (Marilyn) Pick of Pinckneyville, IL; her daughter, Nancy (Dean) Craig of Nashville, IL; three grandchildren, Gail (Brad) Bailey of St. Louis, MO, Jeff (Jennifer) Craig of Murphysboro, IL and David Pick of Pinckneyville, IL; four great-grandchildren, Erin Schimpf of St. Louis, MO and Lelia, Brayden and Evan Craig of Murphysboro, IL; a sister, Eileen Heiman of Tamaroa, IL; a brother, Karl (Lois) Morgenstern of Tamaroa, IL; a sister-in-law, Pat (Harry) Huite of DuQuoin, IL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother; husband; a brother, Harold Morgenstern; and a brother-in-law, Gib Heiman. Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor David Kollmeyer officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Caring & Sharing Thrift Store or Mueller Hill Cemetery.
