Carroll L. Harr's Obituary
Carroll L. Harr, age 80, of DuQuoin, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 8:19 a.m. in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Carbondale, IL. Carroll was born on March 5, 1931 in Fiatt, IL, a son to Vernice and Nettie (Saurwein) Harr. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. serving during the Korean War. On September 12, 1948, he married Florence Melvin in Kahokia, MO and she survives. He had retired after working 35 years with United Electric Coal Company and Freeman Coal Company. Carroll was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, and target shooting, but his greatest love was spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Florence Harr; eight children, Janet DeFord of Pinckneyville, IL, Vicki (Leslie) Bowles of Cuba, IL, Robert Harr of Norris, IL, Brenda Harr of DuQuoin, IL, Suzanne (Kenneth) George of Tamaroa, IL, Judy (Charles) Doolin of Coello, IL, Cathy Craig of Jackson, TN and Lori Bailey of Decatur, IL; two sisters, Eva Bull of Canton, IL and Vivian Kauzlarich of Canton, IL; fifteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, Jack DeFord; a grandson, Michael George; six sisters, Beulah Hilton, Vera Becklehymer, Freda Cameron, Leta Mae Cameron, Evelyn Huizenga and Kathryn Faye Strode; and two brothers, Otis Harr and Vernice Harr. Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, DuQuoin, IL on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplin Stephen Pyle officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, DuQuoin, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, DuQuoin, IL on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Lowe Syndrome Association.
