Bernard "Bernie" C. Martin's Obituary
Bernard “Bernie” C. Martin, age 77, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 11:03 a.m., in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Bernie was born on May 20, 1948 in DuQuoin, IL, a son to George F. and Caroline (Bruns) Martin. Bernie graduated from Pinckneyville Community High School in 1966. On August 12, 1966, he married Jane Feltmeyer in Pinckneyville, IL. Bernie was a proud member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pinckneyville, IL, where he served as an usher and was often known to children as the “candyman”. He worked as a coal miner at Fidelity, Consol #5, and Nighthawk mines. Bernie was also a mechanic, truck driver, and farmer. He served on the board for the U.M.W.A. and Pinckneyville Rural Fire Department. Bernie loved fishing, country music, and dancing. He had a great love for family and friends and never met a stranger. Bernie always made everyone smile and laugh with his contagious joy.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Jane Martin; four children, Scott (Beth) Martin, Amy (Rodger) Fuller, Charles (Jodi) Martin, and Michael (Jennifer) Martin; three siblings, Mary Faulkner, Cris (Lee) Moore, and Mary (Doug) Skort; several grandchildren, Bryce (Lindsay) Martin, Dylan (Emily) Martin, Zach Martin (special friend, Haleigh Bland), Joey (April) Fuller, Dalton (Katie) Fuller, Hayden Fuller (fiancé, Tyah Chapman), Emily Martin (fiancé, Derrick Masulla), Matthew Martin (special friend, Olivia Asbury), MaddyRay Martin, and Grayson Martin; several great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Colton, Reed, Ashton, Wyatt, Layne, Jake, Loudyn, Callahan, and another great-grandson due in December; sister-in-law, Marilyn Martin; special cousins, Jim Bruns and Marilyn Herring; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, George Martin, Jr., Joe Martin, Frank Martin, John Martin, and Steve Martin; five sisters, Caroline Martin, Joann Sexton, Cathy Presswood, Juliann Loos, and Tammy Martin.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Pinckneyville, IL, on Monday, November 10, 2025 at 10:30 a.m., with Reverend Jason Eisele officiating. Interment will be at Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Visitation will be held at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Pinckneyville, IL on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again on Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Memorial contributions can be made to Maple Creek Hospice or St. Paul United Church of Christ.
