Alberta L. Morris' Obituary
Alberta L. Morris, age 92 of Winter Park, FL, formerly of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2010 in Winter Park Memorial Hospital, Winter Park, FL. Alberta was born on July 7, 1917, in Pinckneyville, IL, a daughter to Leon and Betsy (Bigham) Schmidt. On June 17, 1939, she married Earl Wayne Morris in the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL and he preceded her in death on November 26, 1982. Alberta graduated from Pinckneyville Community High School and then attended Southern Illinois University earning a degree in education, choosing to follow in her mother, Betsey's footsteps and became an elementary school teacher retiring after 42 years from the Edwardsville, Illinois School System. Alberta and Earl lived many places as Earl pursued a calling as a Minister of Music in many Baptist Congregations. Alberta and the entire family participated in the choirs, with Alberta frequently directing the children's choir. Alberta and Earl retired to Winter Park, FL in 1981. In retirement, Alberta was a member of College Park Baptist Church, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Alberta lived a very active life, focused on her family and church. She lived independently, gardening, sewing and taking care of Christian, her grandson. Alberta is survived by three children, Dr. Len (Diane) Morris of Orlando, FL, Charles (Sheila) Morris of Orlando, FL and John Morris of West Virginia; six grandchildren, Kerri Morris, Lee Ann (Christopher) Graham, Christian Morris, David Morris, Christopher Morris and Katherine Morris; and two great-grandchildren, Garret and Jacob Graham. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother Lloyd Lynn Schmidt. Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL, on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Rob Mathis officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL.
