Woodrow Wilson West's Obituary
Woodrow Wilson West, age 91, of Oakdale, IL, formerly of Escondido, CA, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at 11:40 p.m. in St. Joseph Memorial Hospital, Murphysboro, IL. Woodrow was born on November 17, 1916 in Sallisaw, OK, a son to Perry and Maggie West, Sr. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He was a prisoner of war captured by the Germans during the D-Day invasion at Normandy. On February 8, 1941, he married Edith Mabel Roundtree in Phoenix, AZ and she preceded him in death on October 23, 2000. He was a rancher and farmer for the Don B Company in Salome, AZ for 30 years. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #4082, Nashville, IL, and enjoyed gardening. Survivors include two sons: William (Nancy) West of San Marcos, CA, and Allen (Linda) West of San Diego, CA, two daughters: Karen (Jim) Thomas of Oakdale, IL, and Nedra (Joe) Whittaker of Mesa, AZ, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and nine brothers and sisters. As per his request, Mr. West will be cremated and no local services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL.
