William D. "Bill" Todd's Obituary
William D. "Bill" Todd, age 80, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 9:20 a.m. in Coulterville Care Center, Coulterville, IL. Bill was born on June 27, 1930 in Jamestown, IL, a son to Alfred E. and Pearl (Davis) Todd. Bill was a graduate of Sparta High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean War. On June 27, 1959, he married Lonie Beasley in Belleville, IL and she survives. He worked as a coal miner for Zeigler Coal Co, retiring after 20 years. He also worked as a deputy sheriff and jailer for Randolph County, IL, and was a supervisor for the Illinois Department of Transportation Highway Department. Bill was a member of Coulterville V.F.W. Post 6865, Masonic Lodge, Sparta, IL and the Democratic Party. He was an avid reader of non-fiction history, cared much about current events and loved his travels around the U.S.A. Bill was a great gardener and his greatest pleasure was reviving plants when they appeared to be hopeless and nursing them back into healthy beautiful blooms, so much so, that his family called him the "Plant Doctor". He couldn't get his fill of nature. Bill is survived by his wife, Lonie Todd of Coulterville, IL; brother, Mike Todd of Columbia, IL; sisters, Thelma Moore of Sparta, IL, Pearl MacLachlan of Hampshire, IL; and Anne Glasscock of Belleville, IL; step-children, Jim (Milvina "Jitter") Powers of Coulterville, IL and Mary Anne (Steve) Cook of Fairview Heights, IL; brother-in-law, C. Beasley of Houston, IL; sister-in-law, Mary Busbicker of Toledo, OH; step-grandchildren, Allen and Michael Cook of Fairview Heights, IL and Terri Brown of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He enjoyed the time he spent with each of them. He always attended their special occasions, sporting events, marriages, and births. He was so proud of each and everyone of them. He spent many hours finding a gift that was just right. "I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of Library" He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Pearl (Davis) Todd; two siblings in infancy; brothers-in-law, D.M. MacLachlan, Jack Moore, and Russ Glasscock; and step-daughter, Betty Casteel. Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Coulterville City Cemetery, Coulterville, IL Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Masonic rites will be held on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Coulterville Public Library or Western Egyptian Head Start.
