William E. Thornton's Obituary
William E. Thornton, age 79, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 6:41 a.m. in Sparta Community Hospital Emergency Room, Sparta, IL. William was born on February 26, 1937 in Coulterville, IL, a son to Alfred and Emily (Mason) Thornton. On July 10, 1993, he married Delores Ann Mitchell in Las Vegas, NV and she survives. William was a veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving his country during the Korean War. He was a maintenance supervisor for the City of Cypress, CA, retiring after 25 years and was a member of the American Legion, Steeleville, IL, Moose Lodge and Chester Eagles. William enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and playing cards. He loved maintaining and tending to his pond and could fix anything. William enjoyed visiting with his mother-in-law in Nevada and loved spending time with his daughter and family. Survivors include his wife, Delores Thornton of Coulterville, IL; one daughter, Angie (Bradford) Booth of Placentia, CA; one grandchild, Tobi Sage Gonzalez of CA; two brothers, Robert (Yvonne) Thornton of Sparta, IL and Gary (Wanda) Thornton of Marissa, IL; two sisters, Jan (Michael) Harris of North Carolina and Leta (Michael) Asher of Sparta, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, William Earl Thornton, Jr. one sister, June Thornton and six brothers, Leo Thornton, Ronnie Thornton; Rick Thornton, Danny Thornton, Norman Thornton and Wayne Thornton. A visitation service will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. William's wishes were to be cremated with burial in California at a later date.
