William L. Kennedy?'s Obituary
William L. Kennedy?, age 92, of Oakdale, IL, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 4:21 a.m. in Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehabilitation, Pinckneyville, IL.
Bill was born on July 18, 1930, in East St. Louis, IL, a son to William Leonard (Bell) and Edith Anna (Pierson) Shetterly. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean War. On April 22, 1950, he married Marilyn Jean Ranek in Madison County, IL and she survives. He was a member of the Henry Schmitz American Legion Post #683 and a proud member of the Democratic Party. One of his favorite "famous" sayings was, "Don't forget to vote! VOTE BLUE!" and his last most famous quote was, "This is the end of an era!". His famous Blue Doily Room is now closed and the Church Bus is garaged. Bill loved having family dinner on Sundays and ice cream socials on Wednesdays. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Marilyn J. Kennedy; five daughters, Marcia (Ronald) Mazander, Lorraine (John) Meyer, Pam Kennedy, Jamie (Richard) Torres, and Kristina (Gary) Gill; eleven grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Oakdale, IL on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Ron Mazander officiating. Interment will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Oakdale, IL.
Visitation will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Oakdale, IL on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Bill did not want flowers or monetary gifts, but asked that if a monetary gift is given, please gift it to the Oakdale Cemetery Maintenance Fund.
