William Burnell "Bumble" Cross' Obituary
William Burnell "Bumble" Cross, age 91, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at 10:10 a.m. in Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, IL. Bumble was born on September 21, 1921 in Coulterville, IL, a son to Hazel Allan "Dick" and Gladys (Brasel) Cross. On February 25, 1941, he married Almira Wine in Perryville, MO and she preceded him in death on January 7, 1965. He worked on the Manhattan Project during World War II. He had worked as a Railroad Engineer before becoming a Coal Miner, a job he did for 20 years, eventually becoming a State Mine Inspector for 13 years. He was a lifetime member of the Masons, a precinct committeeman, served on the Coulterville School Board, and loved to play Bingo. Survivors include his special friend of 47 years Sam Wine; son, Kirby Cross; daughters and sons-in-law, Kay (Harold) Kirkpatrick and Karen (James) McKinley, all of Coulterville, IL; grandchildren Kerry Kirkpatrick, Kristi (Kevin) Helfrich, Fred (Cathy) Clutts, Julie Clutts, and Cheri Cross; great-grandchildren, Kiyoto & Brenden Kirkpatrick, Kayla, Keith, & Karli Helfrich, Jeffrey, Shawn, & Kaitlyn Clutts; Valerie & Ryan Howie, & Shenandoah Burton. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Lloyd "Bud" Cross & infant brother, Glibert Cross; sister, Hazel Begole & Wanda Lee Meyer. Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Kenneth Robinson officiating. Interment will be in Coulterville City Cemetery, Coulterville, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children.
