William "Bill" Templeton's Obituary
William "Bill" Templeton, age 85, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 8:45 a.m. in Friendship Manor, Nashville, IL.
Bill was born on April 13, 1934 in Pinckneyville, IL, a son to John Craig and Myrtle (Bauersachs) Templeton. On April 23, 1955 he married JoAnn Robinson in Ava, IL and she survives. Bill graduated from Pinckneyville Community High School and started working on his family farm with his father, brother and nephews. In 1955, he began working for the U.S Postal Service and spent 43 years as a rural carrier. He lived by the Postman's oath delivering mail daily despite the weather, double checking for late arriving packages on Christmas Eve and requesting mailboxes be moved to a convenient location at homes of his elderly patrons. Bill was a member of Rural Letter Carriers Association and Perry County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed nothing more than spending the fall and winter months quail hunting with family and friends but his greatest joy was spending time in his garden followed by sharing his vegetables and flowers with neighbors and those in his church.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jo Ann Templeton of Pinckneyville, IL; two daughters, Florine Epplin Porter and husband, Joe of Webster Groves, MO and Janice Haschemeyer Holmes and husband, Ray of Golden, IL; six grandchildren, Julienne Everett of Effingham, IL, Nicole (Kyle) Huppe of Arenzville, IL, Dr. Kristina (Craig) Sondgeroth of Chatham, IL, Jacqueline Haschemeyer of Arenzville, IL, Joseph (Nikki) Porter III of St. Louis, MO and Elizabeth (Robin) Larson of Batavia, IL; nine great-grandchildren; special cousin, Sharon (Dan) and son, Marc Newsom of Memphis, TN; sister-in-law, Wilma Jean Templeton of Pinckneyville, IL; two nephews, Bob (Barbie) Templeton of Pinckneyville, IL and David Templeton of Pinckneyville, IL; and niece, Jeanne (Barry) Morris of Nashville, IL.
He was preceded in death in death by his father, John Craig Templeton; mother, Myrtle Templeton; twin brother, Robert Gene Templeton; father and mother-in-law, Freeman and Ruby Robinson; and two sons-in-law, Dr. Thomas Epplin and Victor Haschemeyer.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Don Meeks officiating. Interment will be at Galum Presbyterian Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Galum Presbyterian Cemetery Fund.
