William "Bill" Batson's Obituary
William "Bill" Batson, age 78, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 11:50 a.m. in his home.
Bill was born on March 11, 1941 in Makanda, IL, a son to Lee J. and Ava Lola Batson. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy having served on the U.S.S. Newport News during the blockade of Cuba in the Cuban Missile Crisis. On July 20, 1968, he married Virginia Elaine Cook at Holts Prairie Baptist Church and she preceded him in death on December 8, 2019 after 51 years of marriage. Bill was a retired coal miner and owned and operated Main Street Video, Pinckneyville, IL with his wife. He was a member of Holts Prairie Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL and the U.M.W.A. and enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his daughter, Jada Batson of Pinckneyville, IL; two sons, Adrian (Beth) Guerrero of Massachusetts and Henry Guerrero of Pinckneyville, IL; a sister, Betty Sue Moore of Carbondale, IL; three grandchildren, Lacy Harper (Drew Vandiver), Adam Guerrero and Anthony Guerrero; four great-grandchildren, Hailey and Olivia Vandiver, Dante Guerrero and Sequoia Guerrero; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia Batson; and a sister, Velma Louise Smith.
Funeral services will be held at Holts Prairie Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. with Brother Collin Hirsch officiating. Interment will be in Holts Prairie Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Visitation will be at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday morning at Holts Prairie Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
Memorial donation may be made to the American Heart Association.
