Wanda Thornton's Obituary
Wanda Thornton, age 72, of Marissa, IL, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, IL at 12:24 p.m.
Wanda was born on September 8, 1950, in Murphysboro, IL, a daughter to George and Sylvia (Neihouse) Rader. On May 27, 1978, she married Gary Thornton in Darmstadt, IL, and he survives. Wanda worked for many years at Spartan Printing, Sparta, IL. She attended Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Rockwood, IL, and was a member of the Chester Eagles Woman Auxiliary, Chester, IL. Wanda enjoyed cross-stitching, traveling, being outside and working in her yard, deer hunting, and attending her grandchildren's school activities and sporting events.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Gary Thornton of Marissa, IL; one son, Gary (Alex) Thornton, Jr. of Coulterville, IL; three daughters, Natalie (George) Krause of Marissa, IL, Lisa (Daryl) Rees of Marissa, IL, and Linda (Jim) Bowen of O'Fallon, MO; one brother, Russ (Linda) Rader of Chester, IL; one sister, Della (Ed) Word of Vicksburg, MS; seventeen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Charles Rader, Wibb Rader, and George Rader; two sisters, Sandra Thomas and Sharon Ramsey; and one sister in infancy, June Marie.
Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Friday, April 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., with Cecil Dunning officiating. Interment will be in Coulterville City Cemetery, Coulterville, IL.
Visitation will be at the Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL, on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Rockwood, IL.
