Virginia Weithorn McCrary's Obituary
Virginia Boquillon Weithorn McCrary, age 96, of Percy, IL, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 10:02 a.m. in Manor Court Skilled Nursing & Rehab, Carbondale, IL.
Virginia was born on April 22, 1923 in Pinckneyville, IL, a daughter to Emil and Irene (Smith) Boquillon, Sr. On December 6, 1942, she married Bernie Weithorn, Sr. and he preceded her in death on March 16, 1979. After World War II they lived in Pinckneyville and in August 1950 they moved to Chester, IL to operate Weithorn's 5 & 10 store. After selling the store in 1960, they moved to Sparta and Gorham. After the passing of her husband in 1979, she moved to Weslaco, TX where she met and married Melvin McCrary and he preceded her in death on December 4, 1994. Virginia had worked as a homemaker and outside of her home at Spartan Printing, Sara Lee and as a hospital volunteer in Weslaco, TX for many years. She was a member of The Ridge Church, Carbondale, IL. Virginia enjoyed crocheting and was a member of the SIH crochet group. She loved playing bridge at the Senior Center, Carbondale, IL and making small craft items and selling them at craft fairs with her daughter Julie.
Survivors include her son, Bernie (Judy) Weithorn, Jr. of Makanda, IL; two step-grandchildren, Dawn (John) Moake of Johnston City, IL and Devin (Monica) Clark of Dallas, TX; and two great-granddaughters, Ashley Roberts of Seattle, WA and Emma Moake of Johnston City, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Bernie Weithorn and Melvin McCrary; a daughter, Julie Helen Weithorn; and a brother, Emil Boquillon, Jr.
Graveside services will be held in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Wes Henson officiating. Friends and family are asked to gather at the cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
