Virginia Lucille Childers' Obituary
Virginia Lucille (Schulze) Childers, age 95, of San Marcos, CA, formerly of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 in Miss Emma's #1 Healthcare, San Diego, CA. Her husband, Harry E. Childers, of San Marcos, CA, passed away on October 22, 2006 in Silvergate Health Care, San Marcos, CA at the age of 88. Virginia was born on March 22, 1916 in Pinckneyville, IL, a daughter to Oscar and Bessie A. (Ritchey) Schulze. On September 29, 1946, she married Harry E. Childers in the Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, IL. Virginia was of the Methodist faith and attended nursing school in St. Louis, MO. She was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as an Army nurse during WW II in N. Africa, England, Italy and France. Virginia loved traveling, bridge clubs, and was the family historian. Harry was born on May 22, 1917 in Toledo, OH, a son to Elven and Elizabeth (Kramer) Childers. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp having obtained the rank of Major and serving during World War II in North Africa, Italy and France where he met his future wife, Virginia. He was in charge of the bomber maintenance and repair squadron. He graduated with a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Toledo and worked as an executive manager for the Clorox Company. Virginia and Harry are survived by a son, Michael Henry Childers of Seattle, WA; a daughter, Teri Lynn Childers of San Diego, CA; and many dear friends Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Jack Schulze, and two sisters, Martha Heller, and Charlene Allen. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Lemuel Childers. Graveside services for Harry and Virginia will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, DuQuoin, IL on Friday, December 2, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Jim Barnett officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, IL. Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
