Vernon Ray "Butch" Williams' Obituary
Vernon Ray "Butch" Williams, age 69, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at 4:41 a.m., in Memorial Hospital East, Shiloh, IL.
Butch was born on September 6, 1955 in Pinckneyville, IL, a son to Ora William and Iona "Bernice" (Bingel) Williams. Mothers of his children Sally Boyd and Peggy Fowler. In 2003 he met Crystal Jean Robison and they married in St. Clair County Courthouse on January 26, 2010, and she survives. Butch was a member of the Operation Engineers Local 520 and worked as a coal miner at Horse Creek #1 mine, Consol, and Captain Mine. He attended Calvery Church, Sparta, IL and Swanwick Community Church. Butch was an avid hunter, fisherman, and taxidermist. He loved his dog, Axl and being outside made him happiest. He was always generous, life of the party, had a lot of friends, and never knew a stranger. Butch had a passion for running heavy equipment and had a great work ethic. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 15 years, Crystal Williams of Coulterville, IL; his four children, Karlie (Jeff) Ogilvie of Coulterville, IL, Jodi Williams of Opdyke, IL, Jesse Ray Williams of Coulterville, IL, and Jessie Lee Robison of Tilden, IL; one sister, Betty Hirte of Pinckneyville, IL; five grandchildren, Trista (Ryan) Welch, Dillan Nowakowski, Hailey Ogilvie, Abbigail Williams, and Isabel Williams; two great-grandchildren, Xander Nowakowski and David Welch; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Rita Woodside; one niece, Carla Woodside; one nephew, Will Woodside; one brother-in-law, Terry Hirte; and cousin, Jamie D. Phelps.
A celebration of life will be at Calvary Church, Sparta, Illinois on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Swanwick Community Church or Perry County Humane Society.
