Vernice L. Chapman's Obituary
Vernice L. Chapman, age 81, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 4:42 p.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital, Pinckneyville, IL. Vernice was born on September 13, 1932 in Denmark, IL, a daughter to William and Leta (Derricks) Lipe. On June 12, 1948, she married George Chapman and he preceded her in death on February 1, 1996. Vernice was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL and worked as a CNA and ward clerk for Pinckneyville Community Hospital for 17 years. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, church activities, and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and brothers and sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Georgette (Ron) Houghland of Pinckneyville, IL and Ellen (Jerry) Pogue of DuQuoin, IL ; six grandchildren, Lori (Mike) Pyles, Lisa (Melvin) Houghland-Bathon, Aaron (Autumn) Kellerman, Robert and Richard Chapman, Tessa Kellerman and Ben (Katie) Houghland; ten great-grandchildren, Jacob, Melia, Kalie, Brenden, Emma, Shea, Aiden, Anna, Ethan and Colin; a brother, Everett Lipe of Pinckneyville, IL; two sisters, Dejah Herrmany and Ruth Fisher of Pinckneyville, IL and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; stepson, Bobby Chapman; three sisters, Lucille Taylor, Gwendolyn Lipe and Verna Dunihoo; two brothers, Wivalle Lipe and Edward Lipe, a brother in infancy, Denean Lipe; a granddaughter, Robin Chapman; nieces, Brenda Lipe, Helen Huggins, Gladys Fuller, Joann Wallace, Frances Taylor, Deborah Morganthaler, and Cheryl Miller and nephews, Richard Fisher, Ronald Hermany and Sonny Taylor. Funeral services will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Brother Rob Mathis officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, Illinois. Friends may call at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL. Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
