Velma Lorraine Flare's Obituary
Velma Lorraine Flare, 97 years and 360 days old, of Murphysboro, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 2:32 a.m. at her home. Velma was born on March 4, 1915 in DuQuoin, IL to Howard and Bertha (McDaniel) Price. On February 1, 1929, she married William Flare in Pinckneyville, IL and he preceded her in death on September 17, 1978 after 49 years of marriage. In her lifetime, she had worked at the Pinckneyville Garment Factory, Pinckneyville, IL and at the ice cream machine motor factory in Ottawa, IL. She was a member of the Winkle Baptist Church and enjoyed playing Bingo, cards and doing word searches. Survivors include her daughter, Hazel "Sally" Lorraine (Kenneth "Dean") Gruner of Murphysboro, IL; a sister, Vivian of Chicago, IL; three grandchildren, Larry (Mary Ann) Gruner of Spring, TX, Vickie (Gary) Morden of Fredricktown, MO and Kathy (Terry) Lundeen of Murphysboro, IL; six great-grandchildren, Brandy Gruner, Courtney Gruner, Daniel Morden, Tequila (Ben) Young, Daiquiri (Jacob) Barringer, and Chablis Lundeen; four great-great-grandchildren, Trstn Barringer, Tabytha Young, Tessa Barringer and Ryly Lundeen-Young; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two infant daughters, Norma Jean Flare and Billie Mae Flare; a brother, Howard Price; and two sisters, Mae Dry and Mabel Burnett. Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Rob Mathis officiating. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery, Swanwick, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
