Thomas "Tom" Owen's Obituary
Thomas "Tom" Owen, age 95, of Pinckneyville, IL, formerly of Cahokia, IL, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at 1:07 a.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital, Pinckneyville, IL.
Tom was born on January 11, 1927 in Pinckneyville, IL, a son to Thomas and Viola (Hubler) Owen. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. Tom married Melba Robinson in East St. Louis, IL. He was founder of Owen Tuckpointing and owner of Owen Pipe in St. Louis, MO and was still active in his business. In his free time, Tom enjoyed gardening and was well known for his tomatoes, exercising, singing, and playing pool.
Survivors include his life partner, Geraldine Jones of Pinckneyville, IL; two daughters, Jacklyn (David) Miller of Millstadt, IL and Karen (Mike) Wells of Waterloo, IL; a sister, Barbara Keifer; four grandchildren, Denise (Mike) Mitan, George (Bobby Sue) Dill, Jr., Jennifer Miller, and Dana Morgan; five great-grandchildren, Brittany (Greg) Carson, Kelsey Mitan, Alyssa Mitan, Bryce Morgan, and Isaac Dill; three close nephews, Kenny, Doug and Bobby Owen; and very close friend and driver, Alan Chamberlain.
He was preceded in death by his parents; foster parents, Jess and Tillie Hill; seven brothers, Alfred Owen, Waldo Owen, Wilfred Owen, Dale Owen, Joseph Owen, Moses Owen, and Noel Owen; a sister, Dorothy Hopp; and a former wife, Delores Carter.
Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Tom's close nephew, Reverend Kenneth Owen officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Visitation will be at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Loyalty Missionary Baptist Church, Eden, IL.
