Thomas "Tom" Hawkins' Obituary
Thomas "Tom" Hawkins, age 82, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022 at 10:05 a.m. in Herrin Hospital, Herrin, IL.
Tom was born on December 2, 1940 in Pinckneyville, IL, a son to Kenneth and Fern Maxine (Loucks) Hawkins. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Vietnam War. On June 8, 1974, he married Judy E. Griffin in Pinckneyville, IL and she survives. He was a member of Beaucoup Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL. Tom had worked as an Operating Engineer for Union Local 520 for 50 years. During that time, he had worked as a heavy equipment operator at Arch Minerals and Captain Mines for 18 years. He was also a member of the UMWA, Eagles Lodge, and the Masonic Lodge, where he had received his 50-year pin. Tom enjoyed playing basketball and had served as Assistant Coach at Pinckneyville Community High School and Trico High School. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports and other activities and was an avid L.A. Dodgers fan.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Judy Hawkins of Pinckneyville, IL; a son, Shane (Karin) Hawkins of Carterville, IL; a daughter, Shauna (Shawn) Yadloski of Vienna, IL; a brother Dennis "Dink" (Dorothy) Hawkins of Sewickley, PA; a sister, Judy (Bill) Block of Pinckneyville, IL; five grandchildren, Conner Hawkins, Caden Hawkins, Colton Hawkins, Gracelyn Yadloski, and Griffin Yadloski; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jackie Ray Hawkins in infancy; and a sister, Rebecca Jane Dow.
Tom's wishes were to be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Veteran's Honor Flight of Southern Illinois.
