Thelma Marie Kujawa's Obituary
Thelma Marie Kujawa, age 92, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. in Fair Acres Nursing Home, DuQuoin, IL. Thelma was born on January 21, 1920 in Freeburg, IL, a daughter to David "Earl" and Sarah Marie (Reese) Slusher. On February 29, 1936, she married the love of her life, Sylvester John Kujawa in Nashville, IL and he preceded her in death after 51 beautiful years of marriage on November 2, 1987. She was a homemaker and worked briefly at the Garment Factory, Pinckneyville, IL and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL for many years and was very active in Women's Missionary Union of the church. She was a prayer warrior, loved to garden, tend to her chickens and help her husband with his farming. She could make the very best chicken and dumplings and pies and she enjoyed cooking meals for hay bailing workers in her younger years. She will be sorely missed by her many relatives and friends. Survivors include her children, Lester (Ruby) Kujawa of DuQuoin, IL, Marilyn Jones of DuQuoin, IL (special friend Richard Zewiski of Ashley, IL); and John (Lynn) Kujawa of Atchison, KS; seven grandchildren, Pamela (Randy) Plunkett of Eldorado, IL, Loretta (Ken) Auld of St. Peters, MO, Denise (Mark) Burke of Naperville, IL, Nancy (Gary) Callis of Surprise, AZ, Gregory Jones (friend Christie Piper) of DuQuoin, IL, Suzanne (Joshua) Smith of Chicago, IL, and Jonathan (Ashley) Kujawa of Easton, KS; one granddaughter-in-law, Angella Kujawa of Dodgeville, WI; fifteen great-grandchildren, Andrea (Tim) Austin, Joy Beth (Brad) Costevens, Bret Plunkett, Jenny, Penny and Matt (Katie) Auld, Kathleen, Susan, Laura, and Sarah Burke, Justin, Jordan, and Josh Williams, Kyle Callis and Bruce Kontz; one great-great grandson, Austin Auld; two brothers, Nelson (Barbara) Slusher of Tremont, IL and Delmar (Elaine) Slusher of Goodfield, IL; one sister, Margaret Guenther of Washington, IL; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and several step- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sylvester Kujawa; a grandson, Garry Kujawa; two sons-in-law; four brothers, Lawrence Slusher, Melvin "Skip" Slusher, Virgil Slusher and one in infancy; and three sisters, Madge Sronce, Evelyn Ballheimer and Norma Stanley. Funeral services will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Rob Mathis officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL.
