Sylvester James Epplin's Obituary
Fortified by the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Sylvester James Epplin, age 65, of rural Pinckneyville, IL, passed away at 12:17 a.m., on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at home.
Syl was born on October 15, 1958 in Pinckneyville, IL, the fifth child to Albert and Ina (Baudison) Epplin. He was a lifelong member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL, a 1976 graduate of Pinckneyville Community High School, a past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus 2921, a licensed bingo-caller for over 40 years, and past Administrator and past District President of Moose Lodge 930. Syl was a former member of Pinckneyville Coon Hunters Club, a lifelong member of the Pink Lizards, past president of Perry County Young Farmers and privileged to shake President Ronald Reagan's hand.
He was a lifelong farmer and partner in 4 Mile Dairy. Syl was an avid fisherman, bowler, deer hunter, mushroom hunter and pinochle player. He was an excellent cook/bar-b-quer, and a generous gardener. He enjoyed NASCAR and enjoyed soduko and jigsaw puzzles. Syl would always end his visits with the words "You be good.".
Survivors include his one brother, Stephen J. Epplin of Pinckneyville, IL; and three sisters, Mariann Timmermann of Vandalia, IL; and Kate (Tom) Santos of Laguna Vista, TX; Caroline (David) Giger of Highland, IL; nieces and nephews, Ben (Kate) Timmermann, Mark (Casey) Timmermann, Jen (Greg) Triphahn, and Lena Giger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brothers, Louis John Epplin and Bernard Joseph Epplin who died in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at the St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., with Monsignor Thomas Flach officiating. A rosary for Sylvester will be recited on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m., at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL. Interment will be in St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Visitation will be at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery, Moose Charities, Inc., or masses at St. Bruno Catholic Church.
