Steve Smith Steve Smith, age 65, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 8:35 a.m. in Carbondale Memorial Hospital, Carbondale, IL. Steve was born on February 17, 1952 in Alton, IL, a son to John Franklin and Helen (Stade) Smith. On October 5, 1974, he married Gayla Kay Thomas in Pinckneyville, IL and she survives. He had worked as a die tech at GS Metals for over 38 years. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Moose Lodge 930, Moose Legion 101, and the Eagles Lodge 2522, Pinckneyville, IL. Steve enjoyed fishing, barbequing for family and friends and watching western movies. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Gayla Kay Smith of Pinckneyville, IL; two sons, Shane Smith of Pinckneyville, IL and Josh (Denise) Smith of Pinckneyville, IL; a daughter, Tanya (Scott) Nokes of Perryville, MO; four brothers, Bruce (Zoe) Smith, Johnny Dale Smith, Timothy Paul Smith, and Joel (Alisha) Smith; a sister, Lisa Zimmer (fiancé, Greg Rock); two grandsons, Jacob Shane Smith and Braxton David Smith; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Matthew Smith; and a daughter in infancy, Melissa Smith. Funeral services will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Rob Mathis officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church or the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri. Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL is in charge of arrangements.
