Severin T. Smith's Obituary
Severin Smith, age 85, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away October 18, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at his home. Severin was born on July 7, 1922 in Rice, IL, a son to Pat and Mary Estelle (Poirot) Smith. Severin served his country by joining the Civil Service and was stationed at Pearl Harbor during WWII. On November 9, 1949, he married Leona Wepiewski in Tamaroa, IL, and she preceded him in death on October 2, 2000. In his lifetime, he was a member of the St. Bruno Catholic Church, and was a 3rd degree Knight with Knights of Columbus. He was a self employed electrician and farmer. Survivors include his children: Clara Elaine (Donald) Dreas of Walnut Hill, IL, Joan (William Michael) Baumer of Byron, IL, Bernadette (Robert E. Jr.) Hanson of Diamondhead, MS, and Patrick Smith of Herrin, IL, two brothers: Robert (Catherine) Smith of Pinckneyville, IL, and Pat (Lorraine) Smith of Chesterfield, MO, one sister: Virginia (Paul) Matecki) of St. Louis, MO, one sister-in-law: Bernice Farrell of Parker, CO, six grandchildren: Renee (Alan) Gerdes of Bartelso, IL, Era Jo-el Baumer of San Diego, CA, Shannon Hope Baumer of Chicago, IL, Jessica Hanson of Diamondhead, MS, Madison Robb Smith of Marion, IL, and Melissa Dreas and special friend (Curtis Doetsch) of Collinsville, IL, a step-grandson: James M. Hanson of Herrin, IL, one great-grandchild: Jordan Nowitzki of Bartelso, IL, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers: Eugene, Jimmy, Wilfred, and Bernard Smith, and two sisters: Pauline Loos and Mary Wesseln. Funeral mass will be held in St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Brian Barker and Father Bernard Goedde officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery, Todds Mill, IL. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL and then from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the St. Bruno School and St. Bruno Building Fund.
