Sam A. Morrow's Obituary
Sam Morrow, age 69, of Swanwick, IL, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 4:46 a.m. in his home. Sam was born on July 12, 1948 in Sparta, IL, a son to Samuel Adam and Marie Elizabeth (Foutsch) Morrow. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having achieved the rank of Lance Corporal. He received the Presidential Citation and Navy-Marine Corps Commendations, National Defense Medal, three Purple Hearts, Combat Action Ribbon, RVN Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Frame, Vietnam Service Medal with five stars and Vietnam Campaign Medal with device. On September 13, 1971, he married Charlotte Ruth Fricke in Chester, IL and she survives. Sam worked at Laborers Local 459. He was a member of the Sparta VFW, Vietnam Vets, Randolph County Marine Corps League and Sparta Eagles. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and hunting. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Morrow of Swanwick, IL; one son, Samuel Adam Morrow, III (special friend, Kaci Robinson) of Marissa, IL; three daughters, Bernadine Morrow of Pinckneyville, IL, Mary (Steven) Woodside and Savanah Morrow, both of Swanwick, IL; one brother, Lonnie Morrow of Christopher, IL; three sisters, Laura Baird of Casey, IL, Midge Dobyns and Therese (Joe) Baird, both of Ava, IL; eight grandchildren, Mitchell, Kelcie (Justin), Griffin, Shawn, Ryan, Johnnie, Noah and Abby; two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Hailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Shelia Morrow; one brother, Denny Morrow; one sister, Ilene Morrow; and one sister in infancy. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Sparta, IL on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Tom Klausing officiating. Interment will be in Caledonia Cemetery, Sparta, IL. with military graveside rites by Sparta V.F.W. Post #2698. Friends may call at First United Methodist Church, Sparta, IL on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, South Orange Group. Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL is in charge of arrangements.
