Sam E. Loyd's Obituary
Sam E. Loyd, age 76, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 11:30 p.m., in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Sam was born on September 1, 1948 in Carbondale, IL, a son to Leonard "LV" and Martha Jane (Cummings) Loyd. On February 26, 1966, he married Shirley Lynch at First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville, IL and she survives. Sam inspected railroad cars for Illinois Central Railroad for over 30 years and in 1972, he started and operated S.L. Hauling. He was a deacon at Roe's Dale Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL. In recent years, Sam began attending First Christian Church, Pinckneyville, IL. He greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends and his presence will be extremely missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley Loyd of Pinckneyville, IL; one son, Sammy (Anita) Loyd, Jr., of Pinckneyville, IL; three daughters, Terri (Eric) Thomas of Carlyle, IL, Karan Loyd of DuQuoin, IL, and April (Michael) Akin of Rolla, MO; one brother, Leonard (Lynn) Loyd, Jr., of Marissa, IL; two sisters, LaDonna Teel of Belleville, IL and Levieta Fred of DeSoto, IL; seven grandchildren, Zach, Jarrid, Kristin, Taegan, Riley, Luke, and Logan; seven great-grandchildren, Gidian, Parker, Saylor, Nora, Winnie, Dulcie, and Koa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Judy Hill, Fayetta Chancey and Llona Jane Shurtz; and one great-granddaughter, Rosie Loyd.
Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Joshua Yonts officiating. Interment will be in Holts Prairie Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Visitation will be at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Friday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made be made to the Perry County Health Department with diaper donation listed on the memo line.
