Ruth R. Malan's Obituary
Ruth R. Malan, age 90, of Pinckneyville, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. in the Pinckneyville Healthcare Center. Ruth was born June 14, 1916, daughter of Thomas Gavin and Georgia (Atkins) Roach in Fort Smith, AR. Ruth received her bachelor's degree from Park College, Parkville, MO in June 1938. She married Hugh D. Malan of Pinckneyville on November 24, 1939 in LaCrosse, KS and he survives. In addition to being a homemaker, Ruth taught in Tamaroa and Pinckneyville schools. She was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, taught nursery and Sunday School classes, was a member of Mission Circle, and served as a Deacon. She was a member of Pinckneyville Womens Club, American Association of University Women and Home Extension. Survivors include her husband: Hugh of Pinckneyville, two sons and their wives: Stephen and Susan Malan of Pinckneyville, and P. Mark and Judy Malan of Peoria, one brother and his wife: Paul and Wilda Roach of Sun City, AZ, her grandchildren: Natalie and Matt Wright, Cathy and Pat Moore, and Douglas and Allison Malan, one great-granddaughter: Kallie Mathis, and two sisters-in-law: Faith and Erma Roach of Manhattan, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Richard, Thomas, Jr, and Robert Roach, and one sister-in-law: Marion Jones. Funeral services will be held in the First United Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dennis Hamilton and Rev. David Guthrie officiating. Interment will be in Galum Presbyterian Cemetery, Pinckneyville. Friends may call at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. and then on Wednesday morning at the First United Presbyterian Church from 9:00 a.m. till 10:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Galum Presbyterian Cemetery Association or to the donor's choice.
