Ruth Opal Dempsay's Obituary
Ruth Opal Dempsay, age 95, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 1:45 p.m. in Coulterville Care Center, Coulterville, IL. Ruth was born on December 7, 1912 in Todds Mill, IL, a daughter to Richard and Cora (Mumbower) Todd. On February 6, 1930, she married Golda E. "Bud" Dempsay in her parents' home in Todds Mill, IL and he preceded her in death on September 19, 1984. She was the oldest member at Concord Baptist Church, Rice, IL, and WMU Concord, and worked as a cook at Lake Sallateeska and several other local restaurants and worked for several years as a seamstress at the Garment Factory, Pinckneyville, IL. She was a member of Royal Neighbors, and loved crocheting and sewing. Survivors include three sons: Louis Dean (Joan) Dempsay of Valdosta, GA, William Richard (Patty) Dempsay of Pinckneyville, IL, and Jack Paul (Joanie) Dempsay of Watkinsville, GA, three daughters: Virginia Lee Bruns of Centralia, IL, Goldie Ruth (Charlie) Rizzo of Cocoa, FL, and Judy Kay (Steve) Bigham of Pinckneyville, IL, nineteen grandchildren: Pamela Huff, Debbie Collins, Laura Raigoza, Mark Bruns, Linda Busam, Frankie Shrum, Donnie Shrum, Barbie Green, Jimmy Shrum, Kimbra Schneider, Kathy Mathis, Billy Dempsay, Amanda Folds, Brian Dempsay, Brittany Dempsay, Julie Eggers, Lisa Bequette, Douglas Bigham, and Rebecca McCrary, five step-grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and numerous step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a granddaughter: Amy Dempsay, a brother: Paul Todd, a sister: Pauline Tanler, and a great-granddaughter in infancy. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Concord Baptist Church, Rice, IL with Brother Clyde Dempsay and Reverend Tom Spiller officiating. Interment will be in Concord Cemetery, Rice, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and then at the church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Concord Cemetery Association
