Roxie Joy O'Rear's Obituary
Roxie Joy O'Rear, age 85, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. in Sparta Community Hospital, Sparta, Illinois.
Roxie was born July 5, 1929 in Coulterville, IL, a daughter to James and Melba Marie (Welch) Phelps. On December 11, 1951, she married Charles O'Neal O'Rear in Belleville, IL and he preceded her in death on November 15, 2002. She loved gardening, baking and cooking for everyone, spending time with her grandkids and friends. Roxie enjoyed embroidering and made lots of quilts for her family. She was an avid Cardinals fan and truly enjoyed watching her grandkids play sports. Survivors include one son, Mike O'Rear (Jennifer Morris) of DuBois, IL; three daughters, Ronna (Pat) Jenne, Susan (Bill) Kohring, and Kelly (Michael) Parkinson, all of Coulterville, IL; twelve grandchildren, Kim Jenne, Mathew (Tori) Jenne, Kristen (Al) Yancey, Ranae (Craig) Reehten, Sharie Heller, Joshua (Andrea) Kohring, Amanda Kohring, Calvin (Lindsay) O'Rear, Lucas O'Rear, Sarah Parkinson, David Parkinson and Nathan Parkinson, nine great-grandchildren, Jacob, Lauren and Eva Kohring, Sophie and Emmett Heller, Zoey and Elly Kohring, Paige and Thomas Yancey and three brothers, Dale (Leona) Phelps, of Sparta, IL, Lynn (Carolyn) Phelps of Coulterville, IL and Mike (Cheri) Phelps of Boulder, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, James Kohring; daughter-in-law, Monica O'Rear; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Phelps, Barb Phelps; and two brothers, Ronald Phelps and Ben Phelps.
Roxie's wishes were to be cremated. A graveside service will be held at Coulterville City Cemetery, Coulterville, IL on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Kimberly Jenne officiating. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the following funds: James & Amanda Kohring Benefit Fund or to Miles Against Melanoma and mailed to 2419 South 11th Street, St. Louis, MO 63104. On July 24th, 2014, Roxie's grandson James Kohring lost his battle against Melanoma Cancer. Donations made to the benefit fund will go towards medical expenses accrued during his fight. Miles Against Melanoma is a non-profit organization in the St. Louis area that provides support to individuals and their family battling Melanoma.
