Roger Thomas' Obituary
Roger Thomas, age 80, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2020 at 5:10 a.m. in his home.
Roger was born May 13, 1939 in Pinckneyville, IL, a son to Wilfred E. and Augusta L. "Gussie" (Thornton) Thomas. On December 29, 1961, he married Rosalie Margenthaler in O'Fallon, IL and she survives. Roger was a coal miner and had worked for Arch Minerals Captain Mines and Amex Coal and later in his lifetime, he was a sales representative for Taylor Brothers Welding. He was a member of the National Guard and The First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL. Roger had been the president of Korey League and enjoyed woodworking, carpentering, fishing, hunting and for 38 years building floats for Pinckneyville Mardi Gras Parade.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Rosalie Thomas of Pinckneyville, IL; two daughters, Cheri (Doug) Tabing of Pinckneyville, IL and Barbie (Bob) Templeton of Pinckneyville, IL; one son, Stephen (Lara) Thomas of Lake Mary, FL; six grandchildren, Brett Templeton, Greg (Katrina) Templeton, Eric (Kristen) Tabing, Emilee Tabing, Allie Thomas, and Sydney Lesinski; three great-grandchildren, Anna, Kate and Evie Templeton; two sisters, Nadine Craig of Pinckneyville, IL and Kay Bigham of Pinckneyville, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers-in-law, Don Craig and Jim Bigham.
A graveside service will be held at Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Rob Mathis officiating. Due to health concerns related to the Covid-19 virus and by the signing of executive order by Governor J.B. Pritzker, attendance will be limited and social distancing will be enforced. A webcast video will be available on our Facebook page following the service.
Memorial donations may be made to Pinckneyville Community Hospital Auxiliary.
