Roger "Dale" Knope's Obituary
Roger "Dale" Knope, age 80, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 12:46 p.m. in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, O'Fallon, IL.
Dale was born October 22, 1937 in Coulterville, IL, a son to Donald Louis and Doris Ann (Hollifield) Knope. On June 25, 1991, he married Ruth Kingsten in Paducah, KY and she survives. Dale worked as a coal miner for Zeigler #2 Mine, Coulterville, IL for nearly 30 years. He was a member of U.M.W.A. Local #9905 where he served as chairman of the safety committee and served on various other committees as well. After retiring, Dale loved to spend his time hunting and fishing, and especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dale was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sparta, IL, Skeeter's Nest Hunt Club, and Rod & Gun Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Knope of Coulterville, IL; one daughter, Pamela D. Palmer of Coulterville, IL; one son, Robert (Angela) Knope of Carbondale, IL; his mother-in-law, Mildred Kingsten of Sparta, IL; one brother, Jim (Tabitha) Knope of Coulterville, IL; five grandchildren, Laura (Mitch) Bowen, Eric Palmer, Nick Palmer, Dillon Palmer and Jackson Knope; four great-grandchildren, Rayleigh Palmer, Nicholas (Danielle) Palmer, Nolan Palmer and Leo Bowen; and one nephew, Jamie (Amy) Knope.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Elmer Kingsten; and his son-in-law, Randy Palmer.
Funeral services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, Sparta, IL on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Tim Sims officiating. Interment will be in Coulterville City Cemetery, Coulterville, IL.
Visitation will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Tuesday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church, Sparta, IL from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
