Robert Louis Smith's Obituary
Robert Louis Smith, age 79 of Pinckneyville, IL passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at 2:55 p.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital, Pinckneyville, IL. Robert was born on February 20, 1929 in Rice, IL, a son to Pat and Mary Estella (Poirot) Smith. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War as a Track Vehicle Mechanic in the 518th Ordnance Company. On September 29, 1956, he married Catherine Flure at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, Todds Mill, IL and she survives. He worked as a dairy farmer until he retired. In his lifetime, he was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL, Knights of Columbus, Pinckneyville, IL, Perry County Farm Bureau, enjoyed antique farm equipment, listening to polka music, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife: Catherine Smith of Pinckneyville, IL, four sons: John (Karen) Smith, Ron (Linda) Smith, Tim (Donna) Smith, and Terry (Susan) Smith, all of Pinckneyville, IL, a brother: Pat (Lorraine) Smith of Chesterfield, MO, a sister: Virginia (Paul) Matecki of St. Louis, MO, four grandchildren: Daniel Smith, Collin Smith, Michael Smith, and Kelsey Smith, all of Pinckneyville, IL, a step-grandson: Rob (Angie) Newton and a step-great-granddaughter: Jerika Newton, all of West Frankfort, IL, and many dear nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by parents, two sisters: Pauline Loos and Mary Wesseln, and five brothers: Eugene, Jimmy, Wilfred, Bernard, and Severin Smith. Funeral mass will be held at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Brian Barker officiating. Interment will be in the St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery, Todds Mill, IL with military graveside rites provided by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504 of Pinckneyville, IL. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. The rosary will be recited on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Bruno School Endowment Fund, St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery Association, Perry County Farm Bureau Foundation, or masses.
