Robert Ray Darrough's Obituary
Robert Ray "Bob" Darrough, age 72, of Coulterville, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2011 In St. Elizabeth Hospital, Belleville, IL. Bob was born on September 15, 1938 in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Belleville, IL, a son to Lawrence and Mary O. (Parlier) Darrough. On April 1, 1961, he married Mary Jean Hayes in DuQuoin, IL and she survives. Bob proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army Reserves. He retired after 35 years with Peabody Coal Company and was a member of U.M.W.A. Local 1148. Bob was a 50 year member of the Valley of Southern Illinois Scottish Rite and Ainad Shriner Temple, Hope Lodge #162, Sparta, IL, charter member of the Randolph County Motorcycle Riders Club, Randolph County Rod and Gun Club, NRA, American Thresherman's Association, and Harr-Parr Oliver Collectors Association. He was an antique car enthusiast. Bob and Mary Jean enjoyed traveling the continental 48 United States on their Gold Wing motorcycle. Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Jean Darrough, Coulterville, IL; two children, David (Debbie) Darrough of Eagle, CO and Dena (Gary) Vasquez of New Athens, IL; five grandchildren, Ashley, Andrew, and Austin Darrough of Eagle, CO and Matthew (Trish) Baker and Christopher Baker of Marissa, IL; two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Elliot Baker of Marissa, IL; two sisters, Marilyn (Roger) Hamilton of Sparta, IL and Sandra (Ron) Provart of Springfield, IL; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends near and far. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at Calvary Church, Sparta, IL on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Brother Tim McIntyre officiating. Interment will be in Coulterville City Cemetery, Coulterville, IL. Friends may call at Calvary Church, Sparta, IL on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Masonic service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, St. Louis, MO or Calvary Church, Sparta, IL.
