Richard Dix Lukes' Obituary
Richard Dix Lukes, age 85, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 6:15 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Belleville, IL. Richard was born on January 6, 1932 in East St. Louis, IL, a son to John Claxton and Gertrude Sweet Lily (Washington) Lukes. On April 17, 1962, he married Mary Ann Lusk in East St. Louis, IL and she survives. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War and attaining the rank of Corporal. Richard had worked as a mold tender for Cerro Copper and Brass, Sauget, IL, retiring after 39 years. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the East St. Louis V.F.W. Richard loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed fishing, small engine repair, playing cards, and building homes. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Lukes of Coulterville, IL; six children, Keith (Charlotte) Lukes, and Dexter (Lauretta) Lukes, all of Sparta, IL, Carona Lukes of Bradenton, FL, Carla (Daniel) Chapman of Pinckneyville, IL, John (Nichole) Lukes of New Albany, IN, and Sean Lukes of Sparta, IL; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard Dix Lukes Jr; two daughters, Leslie Lukes and Vetta Brown; three brothers, Leonard, Clarence, and Raymond Lukes; and two sisters, Gladys Ross and Nila Frierson. Memorial donations may be made to National Parkinson Foundation or American Lung Association. Private family funeral services will be held. Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL is assisting the family with arrangements.
