Richard Lee Bierman's Obituary
Richard Lee Bierman, age 73, of Pinckneyville, IL, unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 2:35 p.m., in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Carbondale, IL.
Richard was born on April 30, 1949 in Sparta, IL, a son to Ralph H. and Mary Ruth (Wheeler) Bierman. On December 25, 1969, he married Ruth Elizabeth (Shook) Herrera in Sparta, IL. Richard remarried Linda Marie McLin in Denver, CO, and she preceded him in death on December 27, 2018. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during Desert Storm. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force and also retired as a postal inspector from the United States Postal Service after 20 years. Richard was a member of the Toast Masters Club, T.O.P.S., Dollars and Dimes Investment Club and was a board member at the Senior Club of Pinckneyville, IL. Richard was an avid chess player and played in multiple chess tournaments. He also enjoyed playing cards, bingo, feeding the birds, fishing, gardening, painting with acrylics, and spending time with his family and significant other.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Ruth Bierman of Sparta, IL; two sons, David Allen Bierman of San Antonio, TX, and Michael Ethan (Sara) Burr of Boulder, CO; one brother, David Ralph (Patricia) Bierman, MD of Cary, NC; four grandchildren, Tesla and Turing Burr of Boulder, CO, and Kyle Joseph and Korey Allen Bierman of San Antonio, TX; significant other, Dehlila Gifford of Pinckneyville, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father Ralph Bierman; grandparents, Winniford (Lucille) Wheeler; and grandmother, Lydia Lynch.
Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Minister Joshua Yonts officiating. Military rites will be presented by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504 and the United States Air Force at the funeral home. Interment will be in Caledonia Cemetery, Sparta, IL at a later date.
Visitation will be at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Pinckneyville Senior Citizen's Club.
