Richard Dean Thimmig's Obituary
Richard Dean Thimmig, age 72, of Sparta, IL, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at 1:05 a.m. in VA Medical Center, Marion, IL.
Richard was born on August 24, 1949 in DuQuoin, IL, a son to Wilbur Carter and Doris V. (Keene) Thimmig. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam War where his was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. On March 17, 1972, he married Dianna Lynn McKinney in Carbondale, IL and she survives. Richard was of the Baptist faith and had worked as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, Waterloo, IL. He enjoyed politics, watching movies, swimming, sports, cruising around with his dog, Gizmo, and talking to people.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Dianna Thimmig of Sparta, IL; three daughters, Laura Thimmig (Dan Heider) of Cincinnati, OH, Marci Thimmig (Dave Baker) of Cincinnati, OH, and Samantha (John) Voigt of Milford, OH; two brothers, Tom Thimmig of Nashville, IL and Bill (Denise) Thimmig of Pinckneyville, IL; two sisters, Mary Kay (Brian) Schobert of Columbus, OH and Elizabeth (Dennis) Phelps of Waterloo, IL; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ginny Clancy.
Visitation will be at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Friday, August 5, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
